FULL ITINERARY:

DAY ONE.  WELCOME TO BIG SKY COUNTRY!  From Bozeman airport, it’s a quick 15 minute drive to our historic hotel- The Gallatin Gateway Inn. In the mid 1920s, the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railway capitalized on its electrified route through Montana, by building a spur line to carry adventurous travelers to Yellowstone National Park. The Gallatin Gateway Inn was built to serve and refresh weary travelers. Refurbished in the 1990’s, this hotel continues to host travelers headed to Yellowstone. The trip begins this evening with a welcome cocktail and dinner at the Gallatin Gateway Inn’s fine dining room.
Accommodations: Gallatin Gateway Inn

DAY TWO.   INTO YELLOWSTONE BY SNOW COACH. From Gallatin Gateway we’ll cross Bozeman pass and then drive up Paradise Valley to the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Just inside the park you’ll load up and venture in comfortable snow coaches to view wildlife in areas inaccessible to the general public. Enjoy the scenery from your snow coach cab as you make your way to the Old Faithful Snow Lodge. We’ll stop along the way for guided explanations of sights and sounds, plus photo opportunities. Snow coaches have been operating in Yellowstone National Park since 1955 providing a warm passage into Yellowstone's winter wonderland. A snow coach is basically a large van operating on snow tracks, similar to tracks on a snowmobile.

The Old Faithful Snow Lodge is the happening hub of Yellowstone’s winter activities and your home for three nights. Once you arrive your options are many. You can take advantage of miles of Nordic ski trails, go on a guided snowshoe hike to a geyser, utilize optional snow coach shuttles, and take a full-day snowmobile tour of Yellowstone.
Accommodations: Old Faithful Snow Lodge

DAY THREE-FOUR.   OPTIONS IN THE YELLOWSTONE.  A full-day guided snowmobile tour will begin with instruction from your guide. Then it’s off through the park on snowmobile trails. You’ll stop at Yellowstone Lake, Norris Geyser Basin, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Yellowstone Falls, and many scenic areas in between. Rates are $245 per machine per day.

Maybe Nordic skiing is more your style? Cross county ski in the beautiful big sky country. Ski groomed or backcountry trails. Take a lesson or go with a guide. Cross country ski equipment is included in the package. Nordic style (X-country) skiing is fairly easy to learn and, even if a novice, you’ll quickly be gliding through the crisp winter quiet of the Yellowstone region spotting for deer, majestic elk, sly foxes, and more.
Accommodations: Old Faithful Snow Lodge

DAY FIVE.   CHICO HOT SPRINGS.  In the morning, we’ll take a snow coach from Old Faithful back to Mammoth Hot Springs. Then we’ll head to Chico Hot Springs. Tucked into a nook of the Paradise Valley 30 miles north of Yellowstone National Park, Chico has a reputation for relaxation. Soak in 104 degree thermally heated pools. Enjoy the therapeutic waters and exceptional food served in classic western style. After dinner, belly up to the bar in an authentic western saloon.

Built at the turn of the century, Chico has been restored to its former glory and then some. Relive the west as you belly up to the bar in the evening in an authentic western saloon.
Accommodations: Chico Hot Springs

DAY SIX.   DOG SLEDDING, SPA, HOT SPRINGS, AND THEN ON TO RED LODGE, MONTANA. In the morning, you’ll have the options of some spa time with a massage, soaking in the hot springs, sleeping in, or taking a two hour dogsled ride.

The dogsled route will bring you up a U.S. Forest Service trail into the Absaroka Mountains. You’ll have an opportunity to drive the sled yourself under the supervision of the dog handler. This is a highly recommended experience ($125). Yippie!

From Chico Hot Springs and Paradise Valley, we’ll drive along the eastern front of the Rockies to one of America’s last remaining true western ski towns- Red Lodge. Your accommodations for the night will be at the historic Pollard Hotel. Originally built in 1893, the property has been completely refurbished in the last ten years. This turn-of-the-century mining town with its unique Western flavor was visited by the likes of the Sundance Kid and Calamity Jane. After checking into the hotel, take some time to stroll down the main street where you’ll find quaint shops, art galleries, and western saloons.

Red Lodge is the home of OutWest Global Adventures’ office and the OutWest staff enjoys introducing you to locals in people’s home and local pubs. Tonight you’ll enjoy the OutWest farewell dinner at one of Red Lodge’s finer restaurants.
Accommodations: The Pollard Hotel

DAY SEVEN.   DEPARTURE.  After the hour drive to the Billings airport, we'll say our farewells. If you're interested in skiing at Red Lodge Mountain or spending some more time in Red Lodge, OutWest can arrange additional nights at the Pollard Hotel. Happy Trails!
