DAY ONE. BIENVENIDOS
A MÉXICO. Your OutWest trip leader will meet you at the
airport in La Paz, Mexico, to assist you with ground transportation to
our three star hotel in LaPaz. Following a welcome reception and brief
orientation by your trip leader, explore the historic architecture of
the quiet Mexican city of La Paz. In the evening, we’ll reconvene at
the hotel and depart for dinner at one of La Paz’s restaurants, where
you can get to know your fellow OutWest Adventurers. DAY TWO.
BASIC TRAINING - ESPIRITU SANTO. After
breakfast at the hotel, we’ll meet our local expert guide. We will
board a 25-foot skiff (boat) for an hour excursion to the island of
Espiritu Santo. Following lunch is camp orientation and sea kayaking
instruction. By the end of the day, you’ll have mastered paddling and
more. DAY THREE -
SIX. PARADISE FOUND. The enchanted island of Espiritu
Santo serves as our base of operations for the next five days. Each day
there will be two to three hour guided kayak excursions to outlying
islands. You’ll paddle through sea arches and along volcanic cliffs
and deserted beaches. Our camps are located in large protected bays that
allow exploration of the many sheltered coves and beaches on your own. A skiff is available for visiting snorkeling areas
and fishing. Out in the bays, keep a lookout for dolphins, tropical fish
of every color, and even California gray whales. The highlight is
swimming with the sea lions and their pups that play with you
underwater. Many people describe this as an experience of a lifetime. During the week you’ll have opportunities to
hike into the canyons and to the top of scenic lookouts, fish for sea
bass and red snapper, and play on the beach. And of course, if you wish,
you can simply relax at camp and enjoy the warm tropical sun. In the evenings we’ll kickback with the OutWest
group and hear stories and folklore from our local Mexican crew. Meals
will be a mix of American and Mexican styles with fresh local
ingredients. Barbecued chicken, Vera Cruz style fish (fresh, naturally),
and grilled steak tacos with guacamole and a variety of salsas are a few
examples of the cuisine. Large blocks of ice keep our produce fresh and
our drinks cold. DAY SEVEN. RETURN
TO CIVILIZATION. We leave camp midday after lunch as we
transfer back to La Paz. You’ll have some time on your own to explore
La Paz. Perhaps you’d like to visit the local Aquarium or Museum of
Anthropology before the farewell dinner. DAY EIGHT. DEPARTURE.
Your OutWest trip leader will help arrange
transportation back to the LaPaz airport which takes approximately 20
minutes. You’ll never forget the magic of Baja. |
