DAY ONE. ARRIVAL
IN ZERMATT. WELCOME TO SWITZERLAND! If you are flying
from North America to Zurich, you’ll arrive in the morning and can
catch the train from the airport. You can also fly to Geneva, or Milan,
Italy and get train connections to Zermatt. OutWest Global Adventures
can book your train tickets in advance to save you time.
If you would like to arrive a day or two before the trip, OutWest Global Adventures can book you nights at the centrally located Adler Hotel in Zurich, where restaurants, shops, sightseeing, and gay nightlife is all within walking distance. From Zurich, the scenic train trip stops in Bern,
Switzerland’s capital, then snakes through picturesque mountain
villages on the way to Zermatt. After four-five hours you arrive in
Zermatt’s central station. Truly a walking village, the only modes of
transportation are ski lifts, horse drawn sleighs, electric carts, and
your own feet. With no automobiles allowed, the mountain air is clean
and crisp. DAY TWO-SEVEN. SKI, SUN, AND SOAK OutWest designs the week to be as active or as laid-back as you’d like. In general, European skiers are more relaxed than their American counterparts. They sleep later, take longer lunches, and spend more time at après-ski. Because the European Alps in March are usually warmer and sunnier than the North American Rockies, it’s common to see people sunning in slope-side lounge chairs or on the hotel decks. The Admiral, our host hotel, is a few minutes walk from the train station and ski lift access. This three star property offers steam, sauna, and jacuzzi facilities. All breakfasts and dinner are included in the package. A short walk takes you to numerous shops, restaurants, and pubs. The resort rests at the foot of the Matterhorn, one of the most famous mountains in the Alps. With 73 lifts and over 5,000 vertical feet, Zermatt offers an endless variety of skiing for all abilities. The lift system is made up of a cogwheel railway, underground cable railway, ski lifts, and gondolas. The longest run stretches over nine miles! Zermatt and Cervina, Italy share a lift system
that offers cross-border skiing. Have breakfast in Switzerland. Ski to
Italy for lunch. Then ski back to Switzerland for dinner. DAY EIGHT. DEPARTURE Take the train back to the Zurich airport or to other parts of Europe or Europe. Auf Wiedersehen! Au revoir! Ciao! We can issue you train tickets before you leave for Switzerland. Prices are per ticket and roundtrip to/from Zermatt. Inquiry about other cities or rail passes. Prices are subject to change. Zurich $185 (1st class)/ $120 (2nd) |
