The Hawaiian Islands are
an adventurer’s dream – rugged canyons, towering waterfalls, lush
rain forests, blue lagoons and oozing volcanoes. Explore the
beautiful islands of Kauai and Hawaii and see shades of green you never
imagined! On Kauai, kayak to waterfalls, snorkel with sea turtles,
hike the famous Na Pali coastline and drive to amazing overlooks on the
dry side of the island at Waimea Canyon. Trip price includes our
flight to The Big Island. We'll sea kayak in Kaalakekua Bay,
hopefully accompanied by resident dolphins. Hike the Kilauea Iki crater,
still steaming 40 years after it’s last eruption. Say
"Aloha" and treat your-self to a fun-filled week in Paradise.
Sat
Arrive at Lihue Airport in the afternoon where you’ll be met by your
guide and receive a true Hawaiian welcome. Dinner and accommodation at a
nearby beach.
Sun
After breakfast we’ll swim with the giant Pacific Green
Sea Turtles. The first beach at Poipu offers
great fish and coral viewing and first-timers gain confidence in
snorkeling while holding onto the instructor’s surf-board fitted with
handles. The second beach is where we’ll swim with the turtles.
Back from the edge of extinction, they are quite at home in our
presence. Picnic lunch on the beach. Visit Spouting Horn - a
fascinating blowhole. Drive to the dry, red earth of Waimea
Canyon to view some stunning over-looks. Check into our
lodge for a three-night stay.
Mon
Today we’ll hike the Na Pali Coast.
Our drive to the trailhead passes ranches, quaint towns and the jagged
mountains of Bali Hi fame. Our four-mile hike hugs the coastline
and is challenging with rocks, roots and sometimes a muddy trail to
negotiate. The views are stunning and photo stops are numerous.
Rest and eat lunch at a scenic beach. Back at our destination we’ll
swim at Haena beach and wash the mud off. After a short shopping
stop in Hanalei we’ll dine in Kapa'a.
Tue
Today we're zip-lining and kayaking! In the
morning it's zip-lining! We'll ride six zip-line runs, a 70'
high swinging suspension bridge, a 60 foot high rope bridge crossing,
and 7 aerial platform transfers as you soar through the canopy of
Kauai's silent giants. Glide 60 - 80 feet above the ground in 200'
tall Norfolk Pine trees. Fly through the forest over pine, mango,
eucalyptus, bamboo, and native plant and bird life. The mountain
views are outstanding and ecology narratives are included. After a
quick lunch we begin a kayak expedition up the Wailua River.
Paddle in double sit-on-top kayaks for an hour past mangroves to a small
side stream. Hike through the rainforest and swim in the waters of
Secret Falls. Enjoy Hawaiian pizza for dinner.
Wed
Fly to the Big Island of Hawaii. We’ll have
great photo opportunities at Rainbow Falls in Hilo and Akaka Falls.
Drive to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and check into our B&B.
After checking current lava conditions, drive down to the coast and hike
to where the lava is flowing or to a viewing area if it’s flowing into
the sea. Dinner in Volcano.
Thur
After breakfast at our lodging we’ll walk through a lava tube,
a tunnel once filled with lava. Hike the Kilauea Iki
crater, still steaming after its 1959 eruption. Crossing
the crater is a surreal experience and it’s amazing to see new life
sprouting through the hard lava. We’ll lunch at Volcano
House then drive the coast to our hotel at Captain Cook. At
Punalulu black sand beach we may see the green sea
turtles resting on the beach. Visit the Place of Refuge
at Honaunau, a peaceful spiritual setting on the ocean. Dinner in
Captain Cook.
Fri
Today we’ll kayak across Kaalakekua Bay where
we’ll likely see dolphins playing as we paddle to Captain
Cook’s memorial. The snorkeling here is stunning as
the fish stand out so vividly against the black undersea lava.
Drive into Kona and check into our hotel. Farewell dinner in Kona..
Sat
Free day in Kona for shopping, exploring or relaxing. Flights to
the mainland depart approx 9pm. You can also choose to return to the
mainland on Friday night flights.
