Aspen Gay Ski Week Jan 14-21, 2007

The Seven Deadly Sins

It's our 30 th anniversary and we're pulling out all the stops. We've got a lot up our sleeve, but we're only just starting. If you've never been to Aspen for Ski Week before, this will be the one not to miss !

Aspen and Snowmass continue to make improvements to all four of our area mountains, promising quality and service for every level of skier. There is a new gondola going up in Snowmass and the Aspen gondola will be outfitted with brand new passenger cars, whisking you to the top of Ajax in 11 minutes. The skiing here is world-class, and if you've been here in the past, you all ready know that if it's snowing in January, it must be Gay Ski Week! This year promises to be no different.

When the skiing is over for the day, you can take advantage of amenities that accommodate a certain lifestyle that no other ski resort in the North America can offer and do it with a select few who have chosen this week in Aspen , Colorado as the place to be and we can guarantee a time to remember.

For over 30 years now, as the first official gay ski week, Aspen Gay Ski Week has gained the reputation of hosting the most exclusive and explosive winter entertainment. World renowned DJ's, indoor & outdoor pool parties, debauchery that will take you into the morning hours just in time to hit the slopes.

ABOUT ASPEN GAY SKI WEEK:

Founded over a decade ago to provide services in the Roaring Fork Valley community, the Aspen Gay and Lesbian Community (AGLC) hosts monthly parties, educational forums and special events such as Aspen Gay Ski Week. The efforts of this volunteer group of men and women allowed AGLC to become one of the most philanthropic Gay and Lesbian communities in the nation, providing tens of thousands of dollars to charities of Gay and Lesbian interest. As these events grew, it became more and more difficult to support them solely through volunteer efforts.

In 1996, a new 501(c)3 organization, the Aspen Gay and Lesbian Community Fund (AGLCF) was born, with a full time staff and a Board of Directors to help best maximize the profit for charity while still maintaining Ski Week as a grassroots event. An additional event, Summerfest, was also added, to encourage Aspen fans to experience the beauty and action of summer in the Roaring Fork Valley. Hiking, biking, white water rafting, horseback riding, fishing and fun abound during this late August weekend.

While AGLCF is best known for producing Aspen Gay & Lesbian Ski Week , it also provides critical services to support the development of a strong local Gay and Lesbian community. AGLCF publishes a weekly newsletter for members of the local Gay and Lesbian affiliated community, sponsors educational forums, and encourages participation in local activities and events like Winterskol, the Race for the Cure, etc. This year, we started a program in the schools entitled: SPIR&T: Students Promoting Individuality Respect & Tolerance. The organization also hosts monthly potlucks at locals' homes and regular social gatherings at local bars and restaurants.

Our office acts as a drop-in facility for visitors and a local meeting place for event planning and community meetings. We serve as a resource for questions about the Aspen area, field referrals for incidents of discrimination, hate crimes, or other concerns, and work to encourage Aspen's reputation as a prominent Gay and Lesbian resort destination. AGLCF's renewed commitment to charitable endeavors finds us expanding the services and fundraising we do on a year round basis. Our philanthropic efforts will continue to grow, particularly as we become more actively involved in the charities we support ? educating ourselves and the greater community on the importance of such work.

This Year's Beneficiaries
  • National Center for Lesbian Rights
  • Mautner Project
  • Kurt Van Raden

Our Community
AGLCF serves the entire Roaring Fork Valley community, from Glenwood Springs to Aspen and is the only GLBT organization in Aspen. AGLCF relies primarily on volunteer efforts to produce its events and programs.
