Tucked away high up near the Cloud Peak Wilderness area in Wyoming's Big Horn Mountains is Spear-O_Wigwam, an historic dude ranch. Designed from it's inception with the comfort of guests in mind, the current owners have kept it as a place of peace and quiet, a retreat that combines time in the outdoors with comfortable lodging and hearty meals at night, away from cell phones and the internet. The air is crisp and invigorating, moose wander into the main yard, and you find yourself relaxing within minutes of your arrival. Do you want to be busy all day, going for long rides, learning or improving your fly fishing, hiking in this spectacular rugged land, swim or paddle in the nearby reservoir? Or do you want to want to put your feet up on the front porch and read a good book, in between soaking in the hot tub? Or both? Or sometimes one and sometimes the other? All these are possible- it's completely up to you.

This trip is for:
Any healthy woman who rides or wants to learn to ride. No experience is necessary in any of the activities we offer- you'll learn everything you need to know to have fun.

There are 6 two- to four- room cabins, and 1 to 3 beds in each room with an attached bathroom. Beds will be assigned as people sign up. Some beds are queen-size, others are twins or doubles, and all are comfortable. If at least 15 women register, we will have the entire ranch to ourselves.

Itinerary:

September 6:  If you're flying in, we'll meet at the airport in Billings, MT at noon. You may also choose to fly into Sheridan and we can pick you up there about 2:00. You may also choose to drive: if you don't have 4-wheel drive and high clearance we suggest you leave your car in Sheridan and let us pick you up there. We'll get to the ranch about 3:00 and will have time to settle in, explore the ranch, and go for a walk before dinner.

September 7- 12: Each day will be full of riding, fishing, hiking – and relaxing. Riding is one of the main delights here. The horses are well cared for and well trained, and trail rides, which may be through mountain meadows or above timberline, are in small groups based on experience. There are horses suitable for both novice and experienced riders - the wranglers will pick out the horse most suitable for you. There will be both morning and afternoon rides offered each day and on at least two days there will be an option for an all day ride. Fishing is also a popular activity and the fishing guide will be happy to teach you how to fly fish and fish with you on the ranch. He can also be hired for an all-day off-ranch fishing expedition and if there's enough interest, we'll certainly organize that. Going out on a private fishing expedition with him is another option. Browns, Brooks, Cutthroats, and Rainbows can all be found here.

And after a full day, or a relaxed day, gather in the main lodge before dinner to sit in front of a roaring fire and trade stories about the day. Following a hearty dinner, join in a game of volleyball, ping pong, or pool. Or sit outside in the hot tub and gaze up at the stars that may be brighter than any you've ever seen. At night, snuggle into your comfortable bed and listen to the sound of the stream outside your window.

September 13: We'll leave the ranch after breakfast and return to the Billings airport by 12:00 PM.
